British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he would work in good faith towards resetting relations with Brussels after talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at which they agreed to work at pace to deepen cooperation.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer vowed on Wednesday (October 2, 2024) to put ties with the European Union on a “positive footing”, as he kicked off his visit to Brussels aimed at rebooting relations after the rancour of Brexit.

The wish list he brought here was long. He called for closer cooperation on defence and security, including energy security, as well as on climate change, irregular migration, labelled 'illegal migration' under the previous Conservative government and on delivering economic growth - to help make Brexit work in the UK’s interest, he said.
