The voting for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections has concluded with the highest voter turnout in the last phase of polling with almost 70 per cent voting. The voter turnout for the first phase was 61.38 per cent, then dropped to 57.31 per cent in the second phase and then again jumped to 69.65 per cent in the last phase.

The overall turnout in the Jammu and Kashmir elections stood at 62.78 percent, lower than 65.84 percent polling seen during the 2014 Assembly elections.

The final phase of the J&K Assembly elections took place on Tuesday, featuring polling across 40 Assembly segments in 7 districts, including the winter capital, Jammu. Voting commenced at 7 am and wrapped up by 6 pm.

It also noted that despite an increase in the number of assembly seats from 83 in 2014 to 90 in 2024, the elections were completed in three phases this time as against five in 2014. No major law and order incidents related to the elections were reported,

Syed Mushtaq Bukhari, the BJP candidate for the Surankote Assembly constituency falling south of Pir Panjal in Jammu and Kashmir, passed away on Wednesday morning after a prolonged illness. He was 75. Bukhari reportedly suffered a heart attack around 7 am, leading to his death. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded a voter turnout of 65.58 per cent till 7 pm in the third and final phase of the assembly elections in the Union territory. According to a data shared by the Election Commission,
