NASA Turns Off Iconic Voyager 2 Instrument
NASA powers down Voyager 2 plasma instrument to extend mission
Mission engineers at NASA have turned off the plasma science instrument aboard the Voyager 2 spacecraft due to the probe's gradually shrinking electrical power supply.
NASA switches off instrument on Voyager 2 spacecraft to save power
NASA turned off a suite of instruments on Voyager 2 and its twin Voyager 1 after they explored the gas giant planets in the 1980s. Both are currently in interstellar space, or the space between stars. The plasma instrument on Voyager 1 stopped working long ago and was finally shut down in 2007.
NASA shuts off Voyager 2 science instrument as power dwindles
Both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are powered by decaying plutonium, and they lose around 4 watts of power every year. In the 1980s, several of their instruments were turned off after the two spacecraft finished investigating the solar system's giant planets. This granted both probes extra power, boosting their longevity.
Voyager 2 shuts down science experiment as power stores dwindle
The plasma experiment had been gathering limited data. NASA expects the Voyager 2 spacecraft will continue operating with other experiments into the 2030s.
NASA shut off a Voyager 2 tool to save power

NASA Forced to Turn Off Voyager 2 Instrument Due to Spacecraft’s Loss of Power
On September 26, NASA engineers issued the command to turn off the plasma instrument, which took 19 hours to reach the distant probe and another 19 hours for it to return a signal. NASA confirmed that the switch-off command was executed, and the spacecraft is operating normally afterward.
NASA's Voyager 2 Concludes Iconic 47-Year Journey Through Space Exploration
NASA's Voyager 2 has turned off its PLS instrument to save energy after 47 years in space, with MIT reflecting on the mission's discoveries and its future scientific goals.
NASA Turns Off Iconic Voyager 2 Instrument As Space Probe Loses Power
NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft have traveled further away from Earth than any other human-made object, sending back useful science data from the edge of the Solar System. But now, having spent 47 years in space,
Voyager 2 Goes Dark: NASA extends epic space journey
Launched in 1977, Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to visit Uranus and Neptune. It's currently more than 12 billion miles (19.31 billion kilometers) from Earth. Voyager 1 is over 15 billion miles (24.14 billion kilometers) from Earth.
Voyager 2: NASA switches off measuring instrument to save power
Voyager 2 is now 20.5 billion kilometers away from Earth. One instrument has now been switched off so that it can collect even more data.
NASA Turns Off Instrument on Spacecraft Due to Shrinking Power Supply
NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) announced this week that it was turning off an instrument on one of its spacecraft in an effort to conserve power. On Tuesday, NASA said it shut down Voyager 2's plasma science instrument—responsible for tracking the flow of charged particles—in late September.
