Perhaps the biggest overhaul in NHL 25 is to Franchise Mode. The fan-favorite mode that allows players to take control of any NHL team or manage their own custom league is now more immersive with the addition of contract clauses, players conversations, and in-depth stat tracking.

NHL 25 delivers some improvements, but not nearly enough to justify the cost.

And so were the concerns from the fringes of the gaming and business industry that thought the EA Sports footballing franchise may lose some momentum after making the shift from the decades-old partnership with FIFA to the new EA FC brand last year.

While they still do not always make the plays you want they are much more reactive compared to recent NHL games. Hitting is much improved, it is not as easy as it was in NHL 24 and smaller players can no longer obliterate players significantly bigger than them.

The EA Sports NHL franchise is exclusively on the eighth generation of video game consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X) for the first time. That allows the developers at EA Vancouver to focus solely on maximizing the power and technology of these consoles rather than having to worry about also accommodating the previous generation.
