Smokers have had their fines rescinded after a council admitted its newly installed planters “look like ashtrays”.

Smokers fined for dropping cigarette butts in planters on a Kent high street have had the penalties quashed - after it was ruled that they 'look like ashtrays'. Hundreds of pounds worth of fixed penalty notices issued to people who dropped butts into the soil-filled containers have been cancelled.
