Starbucks Thursday said in an effort to protect the future of coffee against climate-change impacts, it is buying two new coffee farms in Guatemala and Costa Rica. It plans to buy more farms in Africa and Asia.

Starbucks says it bought coffee farms in Central America because of climate change fears. The beverage and food corporation said it's trying own more farms to better 'climate-proof' its operations.

Starbucks Corp. is buying two new research farms that will test everything from drones to microbes as it seeks to make coffee more resilient to climate change, which has already constricted availability and driven up prices.
